Jersey club is Newark's inheritance of Baltimore club sound in the 2000s, reshaped into its own identity: bouncy, triplet-feeling kick patterns, sampled bed squeaks, vocals chopped into hiccupping fragments, and a teenage dance culture that spread first on YouTube and later on TikTok. DJ Tameil and the Brick Bandits crew are its pioneers, Cookiee Kawaii its viral breakthrough. It has become the most influential American club music style of the 2020s. Jersey club runs 130 to 140 BPM, with 137 or 138 a common start, and its bounce comes entirely from the kick pattern rather than swing: on a sixteenth grid, place kicks on steps 1, 5, 9, 12 and 15, beats 1 to 3 plus the a of 3 and the and of 4, layering sub, mid and click kicks. Add a clap or snare on 2 and 4, the bed squeak playing against the kicks, eighth-note hats, and kick rolls in thirty-seconds for fills. The low end is usually just the kick, a short 808 with a brief tail, or a short sine sub following the kick on beats 1 and 3 so the bounce stays legible, sidechained fast. Chopped vocal hiccups, the bed squeak, water drips and crowd sounds finish the track, kept short and dry.
