Ibiza Trance
Trance · 1993 · 132 to 138 BPM · also known as Balearic Trance Pop, Sunset Trance
Trance filtered through Ibiza in the late 1990s: sunny melodies, balearic guitars, and wide, open production sitting somewhere between the club and a postcard. Cafe del Mar compiled its softer side, while Chicane and Energy 52 wrote its enduring classics. This is the trance of summers people miss, embraced openly as nostalgia rather than fought against.

Producing Ibiza Trance
Ibiza trance runs 128 to 136 BPM, between the balearic sound it grew from and the club trance it courts, on a straight grid with only a light 5 to 8 percent swing on the percussion. The feel is sunny and wide, built for a set's closing moments on a big terrace, with the kick present throughout, unlike its balearic parent, and breaks that stretch over 32 bars without building tension, only opening up. Soften a 909 kick with an 8 kHz filter, add a soft clap on 2 and 4, an off-beat open hat, a ride in eighths, and gentle shakers and congas with ghost notes, keeping the same base pattern through the track while the synths and guitar carry the variation.
