Minimal techno strips the genre down to the bone. Robert Hood laid out the manifesto in 1994 with Minimal Nation: a loop, a groove, almost nothing, and somehow everything holds together. Germany turned it into a dominant club aesthetic over the following decade, from the Berlin click to the Cologne groove. It is the art of subtraction applied to the dancefloor, where every element left standing counts double.

Producing Minimal Techno
Minimal techno sits between 128 and 130 BPM, the Hood and Hawtin zone, with groove coming not from swing but from machine offset, an Ableton MPC groove at 60 percent that delays and softens certain sixteenths; the real movement lives in micro-variations and a sample starting a touch late. Think in one-bar loops, never below 126 BPM. A four-on-the-floor kick lands on steps 1, 5, 9 and 13 of the sixteenth grid, cut above 1 kHz with body boosted near 160 Hz, joined by a wood block, a low 808 tom on a single step, and duplicated hats offset for sway. The bass is a sub pulsing between the kicks rather than a melodic line, tuned to a single note that merges with the kick, with a slow sine LFO on volume for breathing tremolo.
