Suomisaundi
Psy · 2003 · 140 to 150 BPM · also known as Suomi, Finnish Psy
Finnish freeform psytrance, born in the late 1990s around the Texas Faggott crew: a joyful refusal of every rule in the genre. Twisted melodies, absurd samples, hidden funk under the kicks, and deliberately homemade production where you can hear the studio and the jokes shared between friends. The name literally means Finnish sound, and the scene owns that: local, self-produced music that gently mocks Goa's cosmic seriousness. Cult everywhere, understood nowhere, and still alive today in the forests of Finland.

Producing Suomisaundi
Suomisaundi sits between 140 and 150 BPM, but tempo is the one rule this branch of psy breaks freely, some tracks shift tempo mid-track or drop into half-time. The groove hides funk underneath, so a swing of 54 to 58 percent on percussion and bass is welcome, and the structure feels like a jam, count in eights but allow six or ten when the joke calls for it. Keep a proper psy kick but let it share space with sampled drum breaks and absurd extra percussion like a car horn or a spoon on a glass. Fills are tricky: triplet rolls that land a beat too early, or Beat Repeat chopping up a whole bar.
